Dear Friend,
Animals communicate in many different ways. Some speak with a bark or a wag of the tail. Others speak with a gentle purr. Kito, a lovable Akita the Chester County SPCA took in last April, spoke with his eyes.
Kito's face was covered with bloody, oozing sores and his beautiful white coat was ravaged from mange. His sad eyes begged for help. Recovery for Kito would be difficult. We only hoped it wasn't too late.
We put Kito under the care of a trusted veterinarian. The doctor and his staff cleaned his wounds, bathed him and treated Kito with antibiotics. Within a few weeks, the dazzling sparkle in Kito's eyes returned, as did the gorgeous shine of his white coat. It was almost impossible to believe that this was the same dog. When Kito completely recovered, we placed him for adoption, and today he lives in a loving, caring home!
Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, the Chester County SPCA quietly saves lives. In fact, we've been providing programs and services to the Delaware Valley since 1929. As the population of the county and surrounding areas continues to increase, so do the problems that we deal with everyday. There are many stories I can tell you. Just this year, we nurtured a cat that was thrown from the window of a moving car. We rescued dogs tethered on short chains. They existed for most of their lives alone with no choice but to sit, stand and sleep in their own urine and feces.
Kito is only one of the more than 5,000 homeless, unwanted or abused animals that we will shelter, feed and care for this year. We will work to find responsible, permanent homes for as many of them as we can. I am personally rewarded when I see the smiles of children and adults as they welcome a dog, cat, rabbit or guinea pig into their families.
The Chester County SPCA receives no funding from other humane societies or federal, state or county sources. We need your support so we can continue to provide services that solve the problems of animal suffering due to cruelty, neglect, ignorance and overpopulation.
Please show that you care by supporting the Chester County SPCA today and making a generous donation. As a donor, you will receive Paw Press, our engaging newsletter with up to date information on our efforts and our animals! Your contribution has the power to put the sparkle back into the eyes of a suffering animal. Now, more than ever, the animals in our care are depending on you.
Sincerely and with great hope,
Susan B. Spackman
